The biennial "International Bonn Solo Dance Festival", which is held for the fourth time from January 18 to February 2 2013, is not only the only remaining international festival in the former capital in the field of performing arts, but also the only solo dance festival of the Republic.

Invitations to world renowned artists such as Xavier Le Roy or Camille Mutel, as well as numerous premieres have brought the festival reputation and increased attention from outside. It has proven itself to concentrate on the artistic format "Solo". The first purely formal criterion for selection is the clip from the juxtaposition of an endless variety of designs and self-productions. No other genre focuses on the individual in such immediacy, allows either the intense identification or irritating confrontation of the spectator with the strangeness of a different self on stage.

The little narration of multiplicity mirrors the demands of the role and the conflicts that result from them on the one hand and, on the other, the possibilities that can evolve from their violation. The little narrations grow larger in number, they replace the great narrations of reason, of emancipation, of liberation and revolution, for they reject the normative.

The successful approach from previous years to present the self-will and thoroughgoingness of solo work in a refreshing balance to a mainstream and event culture is this year amplified by a continued focus on solos exclusively by men. The emphasis is on the confrontation with the tradition and the personal influences of the dancers and choreographers like Lutz Förster, Cristian Duarte and Cocoondance on the one hand, and the examination of specific male roles such as fool, artist and terrorist, as in Jaro Vinařský, Jean-Marc Heim and Christoph Winkler on the other.

As in previous years there will be a preliminary program for the "4th Bonn International Solo-Dance-Festival” which refers to one of the following events and will make contemporary dance known to a wider audience. In recent editions locations were for example laundromats, swimming pools, barber shops, pubs and cafes, shop-windows, cinemas, museums, metro stations, public transport, city halls etc. where dancers appeared surprisingly as "festival mascot" with solo improvisations and put the audience in the mood for the festival with improvisations specially developed for everyday spaces.

This year the dancer and choreographer Martin Inthamoussú takes over this role, and will open the festival with Mannish Man on the 18th January.
